Rabavert is indicated for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in individuals at high risk of rabies exposure, such as veterinarians, animal handlers, and laboratory workers. It is also used for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) in individuals who have been bitten or scratched by an animal suspected of carrying rabies, typically administered alongside rabies immune globulin.

Rabavert is an inactivated (killed) vaccine that contains rabies virus antigens produced in cell culture. After administration, the vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies against the rabies virus, providing protection against infection if the person is subsequently exposed to the virus.

Rabavert is administered intramuscularly as a series of injections. For post-exposure prophylaxis, timing is critical and doses should be given according to established immunization schedules. Common side effects may include injection site reactions, headache, and mild systemic symptoms. The vaccine is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any vaccine components. Medical supervision is required for proper dosing and monitoring.
