Recarbrio treats complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI) and complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI) in adults caused by susceptible gram-negative bacteria, including cases where other antibiotics may not be effective due to resistance.

Recarbrio combines three components: imipenem (a carbapenem antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis), cilastatin (which prevents renal degradation of imipenem), and relebactam (which protects imipenem from certain bacterial resistance mechanisms by inhibiting beta-lactamases).

Recarbrio is administered intravenously and should only be used when clearly indicated to reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to carbapenems. Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, headache, and injection site reactions. Caution is needed in patients with renal impairment.
