Regranex is indicated for the treatment of lower extremity diabetic neuropathic ulcers that extend into the subcutaneous tissue or beyond, when used as part of a comprehensive wound care program including debridement, pressure relief, and infection control.

The active ingredient becaplermin is a recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) that stimulates granulation tissue formation and promotes wound healing by encouraging cell proliferation and migration at the ulcer site.

Regranex should be applied once daily in a thin layer to the wound surface. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to becaplermin or any component of the product. The safety and effectiveness in patients with wounds that extend to muscle, tendon, or bone has not been established. Common side effects may include local skin reactions at the application site.
