Relebactam
Relebactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor combined with imipenem and cilastatin in the product RECARBRIO. This combination medication is used to treat complicated urinary tract infections and complicated intra-abdominal infections in adults. Relebactam protects imipenem from degradation by bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes, enhancing the antibiotic's effectiveness against resistant organisms.
RECARBRIO (imipenem/cilastatin/relebactam) is a combination antibiotic used for complicated urinary tract and intra-abdominal infections that works by inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes to protect the carbapenem antibiotic.

Treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI) and complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI) in adults caused by susceptible gram-negative bacteria, including Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Relebactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects imipenem (a carbapenem antibiotic) from degradation by serine beta-lactamases. Cilastatin inhibits renal dehydropeptidase, preventing metabolism of imipenem in the kidneys.
Not effective against gram-positive bacteria or anaerobic bacteria alone; use requires susceptibility testing. Contraindicated in patients with history of anaphylaxis to beta-lactams. Monitor for seizures and Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea. Dose adjustment needed for renal impairment.
