Reltone is used to dissolve radiolucent, non-calcified cholesterol gallstones in patients who cannot undergo surgery, and to treat primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) to improve liver function and slow disease progression.

As a naturally occurring bile acid, Reltone decreases cholesterol secretion into bile, reduces bile cholesterol concentration, and promotes bile flow, helping to dissolve cholesterol-based gallstones and protect liver cells from toxic bile acids.

Reltone should be taken with meals for best absorption. Regular monitoring of liver function and gallstone status may be required during treatment. Common side effects may include diarrhea, indigestion, and abdominal discomfort. It is available by prescription only.
