Repatha is used to treat adults and children (ages 10 and older) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) or clinical atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease who require additional LDL cholesterol lowering. It is also used in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH).

Repatha is a monoclonal antibody that binds to and inhibits the PCSK9 protein. By blocking PCSK9, the medication allows more LDL receptors to remain active on liver cells, enabling the liver to remove more LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream, thereby lowering LDL levels.

Repatha is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) once every 2 weeks or once monthly. Common side effects may include injection site reactions, upper respiratory tract symptoms, and flu-like symptoms. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications and allergies before starting treatment.
