Revefenacin
Revefenacin is a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) used as a maintenance treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by blocking muscarinic M3 receptors in the airways, which prevents bronchoconstriction and helps relax airway smooth muscles. Revefenacin is indicated for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is not intended for acute bronchospasm episodes or as a rescue medication.
As a long-acting muscarinic antagonist, Revefenacin blocks M3 receptors on airway smooth muscle, preventing acetylcholine from triggering bronchoconstriction. This results in sustained bronchodilation and improved breathing.
Common side effects include upper respiratory tract infections, cough, and headache. Use with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, or benign prostatic hyperplasia. It should not be used with other anticholinergic medications. Pregnant or breastfeeding patients should consult their healthcare provider before use.
