Revolution is used for the prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides spp.), control of tick infestations, and treatment of ear mites and sarcoptic mange in dogs and cats. Specific indications may vary by species and formulation.
The active ingredient selamectin works by interfering with the nervous system of parasites. It is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and distributes throughout the body, where parasites ingest it when feeding on the host's blood. This causes paralysis and death of susceptible parasites.
Revolution is for topical use only and should be applied to dry skin. It is important to test for existing heartworm infection before initiating preventive therapy. Bathing should be avoided for at least 2 hours after application. Some pets may experience temporary hair loss or irritation at the application site. Consult a veterinarian before use in sick, debilitated, or pregnant animals.
