Physical and chemical properties
Treatment and prevention of riboflavin (Vitamin B2) deficiency, which can cause symptoms like sore throat, angular cheilitis, glossitis, and anemia. May be used as adjunctive therapy for migraine prophylaxis in some patients.
Riboflavin is a precursor to flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), which are essential coenzymes involved in oxidation-reduction reactions, energy production, and metabolism of fats, drugs, and steroids.
Generally well-tolerated with minimal side effects. Excess amounts are excreted in urine, giving it a characteristic bright yellow color. May interact with certain medications like tricyclic antidepressants and phenobarbital. Should be taken with food for better absorption.
