Ryoncil is indicated for the treatment of steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (SR-aGVHD) in pediatric patients aged 2 months and older. It is used when the immune system's attack on the body after a stem cell transplant has not responded to corticosteroid therapy.
Ryoncil contains mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) derived from the bone marrow of unrelated donors. These cells have immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties that help suppress the overactive immune response causing graft-versus-host disease.
Ryoncil is administered as an intravenous infusion. It is manufactured from donor tissue and is not matched by HLA type. Patients should be monitored for potential infusion reactions. The medication should only be administered by healthcare professionals experienced in managing transplant-related conditions.
