Ryzumvi is used to produce mydriasis (pupil dilation) for diagnostic purposes, including comprehensive eye exams, fundoscopy, and other ophthalmic procedures requiring visualization of the posterior segment of the eye.
Ryzumvi contains phenylephrine, an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist. When applied topically to the eye, it stimulates the alpha-1 receptors on the dilator pupillae muscle, causing the pupil to dilate.
Ryzumvi is for topical ophthalmic use only. It should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, or thyroid disorders. Common side effects may include transient stinging, blurred vision, and photophobia. Contraindications include narrow-angle glaucoma and known hypersensitivity to the medication.
