Santyl is indicated for debriding chronic dermal ulcers and severely burned skin, including pressure ulcers (bedsores), diabetic foot ulcers, and second-degree burns. It helps remove necrotic (dead) tissue to promote healing.

The active ingredient collagenase is an enzyme that specifically breaks down collagen in dead tissue. When applied topically to a wound, it digests the damaged collagen in necrotic tissue, allowing healthy tissue to remain and enabling natural wound healing.

Santyl is for topical use only and should not be applied to wounds with exposed tendon, muscle, or bone. It should not be used on heavily infected wounds. Applications are typically made daily with the wound kept moist. Avoid using with certain antiseptic agents as they may reduce effectiveness. A healthcare provider should monitor progress during treatment.
