Saphnelo is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in adult patients. It is typically used when other standard treatments have not provided adequate symptom control.

Saphnelo is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the type I interferon receptor, blocking the activity of type I interferons. These interferons are believed to play a key role in driving the inflammation and immune dysfunction seen in SLE.

Saphnelo is administered as an intravenous (IV) infusion every 4 weeks by a healthcare professional. Common side effects may include upper respiratory infections, bronchitis, infusion-related reactions, and herpes zoster (shingles). Patients should be monitored for infections during treatment. Live vaccines should be avoided while on therapy. Patients should discuss their complete medical history with their doctor, as Saphnelo may not be suitable for those with severe active infections or certain other conditions.
