Like other tetracyclines, sarecycline may cause photosensitivity reactions, permanent tooth discoloration in developing teeth, and should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It may reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives and should not be taken with isotretinoin. Patients should avoid taking it with dairy products, antacids, or iron supplements which can decrease absorption.
