Prevention of COVID-19 disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus in adults and adolescents. May be used for primary vaccination series and as booster doses in eligible populations.
Uses a modified non-replicating virus (vector) to deliver genetic material encoding the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein into cells. The body produces the spike protein, triggering immune system recognition and development of protective antibodies and cellular immunity.
Administered by intramuscular injection. Common side effects include injection site pain, headache, fatigue, and muscle aches. Contraindicated in individuals with severe allergies to vaccine components. Efficacy varies against different variants. Not a treatment for active infection.
