Selarsdi is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adults who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy, as well as active psoriatic arthritis. It may be used alone or in combination with conventional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs).
Selarsdi is a monoclonal antibody that selectively binds to the p19 subunit of interleukin-23 (IL-23), preventing it from interacting with the IL-23 receptor. By blocking this pathway, it reduces the inflammatory cascade that contributes to the development of psoriatic plaques and joint inflammation.
Selarsdi is administered as a subcutaneous injection, typically with an initial loading dose followed by maintenance dosing every 12 weeks. Common side effects may include upper respiratory infections, headache, and injection site reactions. Patients should be screened for tuberculosis before starting treatment and monitored for signs of infection during therapy. As an immunosuppressant, it may increase the risk of infections and malignancies.
