Selzentry is indicated for use in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in heavily treatment-experienced adults with evidence of viral replication and HIV strains resistant to multiple antiretroviral agents.

Selzentry is a CCR5 receptor antagonist. It selectively binds to the human chemokine receptor CCR5 on the surface of CD4+ T-cells, preventing the CCR5-tropic HIV-1 virus from entering and infecting these immune cells.

Selzentry must be used in combination with other antiretroviral medications. Prior to treatment, testing is required to confirm CCR5-tropic HIV. Liver toxicity and cardiovascular events have been reported. The medication may cause dizziness. Dosage adjustments may be needed in patients with renal impairment.
