Cinacalcet
Sensipar (cinacalcet) is a calcimimetic medication that lowers parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels by making calcium-sensing receptors in the parathyroid glands more sensitive to calcium. It is primarily used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis, as well as hypercalcemia in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism who cannot undergo surgery or have parathyroid cancer.
Sensipar is a calcimimetic agent used to lower parathyroid hormone levels and blood calcium in patients with kidney disease, primary hyperparathyroidism, or parathyroid cancer.

Treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis; hypercalcemia in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism who cannot undergo surgery or whose condition persists after surgery; hypercalcemia in patients with parathyroid carcinoma.
Acts as a calcimimetic by binding to calcium-sensing receptors on parathyroid cells, increasing the receptor's sensitivity to calcium and thereby decreasing secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Lower PTH levels lead to reduced blood calcium.
May cause hypocalcemia; contraindicated in patients with existing low blood calcium. Can cause QT prolongation. Tablets are taken with food or shortly after a meal. Requires regular monitoring of calcium and PTH levels.
