Carbidopa
Sinemet is a combination medication containing levodopa and carbidopa, used primarily to treat Parkinson's disease symptoms. Levodopa is converted to dopamine in the brain, while carbidopa helps ensure more levodopa reaches the brain and reduces peripheral side effects. This medication helps improve motor symptoms such as tremor, stiffness, and slowness of movement.
Sinemet combines levodopa and carbidopa to treat Parkinson's disease by replenishing brain dopamine levels.

Sinemet is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and parkinsonism, including tremor, muscle stiffness, and difficulty with movement. It helps manage both early-stage and advanced Parkinson's disease.
Levodopa, a dopamine precursor, crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted to dopamine, replenishing the neurotransmitter deficient in Parkinson's disease. Carbidopa inhibits peripheral conversion of levodopa to dopamine, allowing more to reach the brain and reducing nausea and other peripheral side effects.
Sinemet may cause drowsiness or sudden sleep episodes. It should not be stopped abruptly, as this can cause a severe syndrome. The effectiveness may decrease over time (wearing-off phenomenon). Dark urine or sweat may occur during treatment. Patients should inform their doctor of all medications, as many drugs interact with levodopa.
