Skytrofa is indicated for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency in pediatric patients who have inadequate growth due to insufficient growth hormone production. It is not indicated for other causes of short stature.
Skytrofa is a prodrug that contains somatropin (recombinant human growth hormone). After subcutaneous injection, it releases somatropin which mimics the action of natural human growth hormone, stimulating IGF-1 production, promoting skeletal growth, and influencing protein, carbohydrate, and lipid metabolism.
Skytrofa is administered weekly by subcutaneous injection, typically in the abdomen, thigh, or buttocks, rotating injection sites. Common side effects may include injection site reactions, headaches, and fever. It should not be used in patients with active malignancy, diabetic retinopathy, or hypersensitivity to any component. Patients should be monitored regularly for growth response, IGF-1 levels, and potential adverse effects.
