Solodyn is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory lesions of non-nodular moderate to severe acne vulgaris in patients 12 years of age and older. It is typically used when other acne treatments have not been effective or are not tolerated.

Solodyn contains minocycline, a tetracycline antibiotic that works by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis. This bacteriostatic action reduces the growth of Propionibacterium acnes and has anti-inflammatory properties that help improve acne lesions.

Solodyn should be taken exactly as prescribed and swallowed whole with adequate water. Common side effects include dizziness, fatigue, and gastrointestinal symptoms. It should not be used during pregnancy, in children under 12, or by those allergic to tetracyclines. Sun exposure should be minimized during treatment. As with all antibiotics, it should only be used for bacterial infections as prescribed.
