Treats acute exacerbations of asthma, severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, angioedema), autoimmune conditions (lupus, vasculitis), inflammatory disorders (arthritis, colitis), certain skin conditions, and as adjunctive therapy in septic shock. Also used to manage acute flare-ups of multiple sclerosis.

Administered by intravenous or intramuscular injection by healthcare professionals. Short-term use is generally well-tolerated, but long-term use requires gradual dose tapering to avoid adrenal insufficiency. Common side effects include elevated blood sugar, mood changes, fluid retention, and increased infection risk. Contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections. May interact with blood thinners, diabetes medications, and certain antibiotics. Requires monitoring in patients with diabetes, hypertension, or history of gastrointestinal bleeding.
