Soolantra is FDA-approved for the topical treatment of inflammatory lesions (papules and pustules) of rosacea in adults. It is not indicated for ocular rosacea or erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (visible blood vessels and background redness alone).

The exact mechanism of action for topical ivermectin in rosacea is not fully established. It is believed to work through anti-inflammatory properties and may target Demodex mites and associated bacteria that are thought to contribute to the inflammatory lesions of rosacea.

Soolantra is for topical use only and should not be used in the eyes, mouth, or vagina. Common side effects may include skin burning sensation, skin irritation, and dry skin. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications and allergies before use. Safety in pregnancy, breastfeeding, and children has not been established. Results may take several weeks to become noticeable.
