Regulatory approval status for COVID-19 treatment
Mechanism of action
Pharmacological mechanism of Sotrovimab
Treatment of mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adults and pediatric patients (12 years and older weighing at least 40 kg) who are at high risk for progressing to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death.
Sotrovimab is a neutralizing monoclonal antibody that binds to the receptor-binding domain of the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. This binding prevents the virus from entering human cells and neutralizes the virus, reducing viral replication and disease severity.
Administered as a single intravenous infusion. Effectiveness may vary against different viral variants. Not authorized for patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 or those requiring oxygen therapy. May not be suitable for patients with severe renal impairment. Regulatory authorizations have been updated over time as variants evolved.
