Strensiq is indicated for the treatment of patients with perinatal/infantile-onset and juvenile-onset hypophosphatasia, a rare inherited metabolic disorder caused by mutations in the ALPL gene leading to low alkaline phosphatase levels.
Strensiq provides exogenous recombinant human tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase, which helps increase bone mineralization by hydrolyzing inorganic pyrophosphate, a natural inhibitor of hydroxyapatite crystal formation.
Strensiq is administered via subcutaneous injection and carries risks including injection site reactions, lipodystrophy, and potential hypersensitivity reactions. Regular monitoring of alkaline phosphatase levels and clinical response is recommended during treatment.
