Synera is indicated for producing local dermal anesthesia prior to superficial dermatological procedures, including venipuncture, intravenous cannulation, and minor surgical procedures such as biopsies and electrosurgery.

Synera contains lidocaine and tetracaine, which block nerve signals in the skin by inhibiting sodium channels. This combination provides rapid and sustained local anesthetic effects, resulting in temporary numbing of the treated area.

Synera should only be applied to intact, unbroken skin and must be removed before procedures. It is not recommended for use on mucous membranes, broken skin, or on infants under 1 month of age. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of any allergies to local anesthetics. Application time typically ranges from 20 to 30 minutes for optimal effect.
