Tachosil is used as a supportive sealing agent in surgical procedures where control of bleeding or sealing of tissue is required and conventional techniques are insufficient. Common applications include cardiovascular surgery, thoracic procedures, and other soft tissue surgeries where hemostasis is needed.

Tachosil consists of a collagen matrix impregnated with human fibrinogen and human thrombin. When applied to a bleeding surface and contacted with blood or body fluids, the thrombin activates the fibrinogen to form a fibrin clot, creating a adhesive seal over the tissue.

Tachosil is applied by trained surgeons during operative procedures. It is contraindicated in cases of known hypersensitivity to human blood products. The product is fully absorbable over time. As with all blood-derived products, there is a theoretical risk of infection transmission. It should not be used intravascularly.
