Tadalafil
Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. It works by enhancing the effects of nitric oxide, a natural chemical the body produces to relax smooth muscles in the penile area, allowing for improved erectile function.

Tadalafil is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. It is also prescribed for the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
Tadalafil inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which normally breaks down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). By preventing this breakdown, tadalafil allows cGMP to accumulate, promoting the relaxation of smooth muscle in the penile arteries and corpus cavernosum. This relaxation increases blood flow to the penis, facilitating an erection in response to sexual stimulation.
Tadalafil is not an aphrodisiac and requires sexual arousal to be effective. It should not be taken with nitrates or certain blood pressure medications due to the risk of severe hypotension. Common side effects include headache, flushing, upset stomach, and muscle aches. Medical consultation is required before use, especially for patients with heart conditions, low blood pressure, or recent stroke history.
