Tasigna is used to treat Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) in adults and children. It may be used as a first-line treatment or in patients who have resistance or intolerance to other tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as imatinib.

Tasigna works by inhibiting the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase, a protein produced by the Philadelphia chromosome that promotes the growth of cancer cells. By blocking this protein, it helps slow or stop the proliferation of leukemia cells.

Tasigna should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 2 hours before or 1 hour after food. It may cause serious side effects including heart-related complications, low blood counts, and liver problems. Regular monitoring through blood tests is required during treatment. Patients should inform their doctor of all medications and supplements they are taking.
