Avacopan
Tavneos (avacopan) is a complement C5a receptor antagonist used as an adjunctive treatment for adults with severe active ANCA-associated vasculitis, including granulomatosis with polyangiitis and microscopic polyangiitis. It works by blocking the C5a receptor, which plays a key role in the inflammatory response that damages blood vessels in these autoimmune conditions. This oral medication was designed to help reduce reliance on standard corticosteroid therapy while maintaining disease control.
Tavneos is an oral C5a receptor antagonist approved for treating ANCA-associated vasculitis, a rare autoimmune disease causing blood vessel inflammation.

Tavneos is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with severe active ANCA-associated vasculitis (GPA and MPA) in combination with standard therapy including rituximab or cyclophosphamide.
Tavneos is a selective C5a receptor antagonist that blocks the action of C5a, a key component of the complement system involved in neutrophil activation and inflammation, thereby reducing the immune-mediated damage to blood vessels characteristic of ANCA-associated vasculitis.
Tavneos is taken as 30 mg (three 10 mg capsules) twice daily with food. It should not be used as monotherapy and must be combined with other immunosuppressive therapies. Regular monitoring of liver function and blood counts is recommended. Common side effects may include nausea, headache, and increased risk of infections. Use with caution in patients with active serious infections or severe hepatic impairment.
