Tecentriq is used to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), small cell lung cancer (SCLC), triple-negative breast cancer, urothelial carcinoma of the bladder, hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), and melanoma. It may be used alone or in combination with other cancer treatments.
Tecentriq is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the PD-L1 protein on tumor cells and immune cells. By blocking PD-L1, it prevents the protein from interacting with PD-1 and B7.1 receptors, effectively releasing the brakes on the immune system and allowing T-cells to identify and destroy cancer cells more effectively.
Tecentriq is administered as an intravenous infusion by a healthcare professional. Common side effects include fatigue, decreased appetite, and infusion reactions. It can cause serious immune-related side effects affecting the lungs, liver, colon, and other organs. Patients should be monitored closely during treatment and report any new or worsening symptoms immediately.
