Tekturna is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.

Tekturna contains aliskiren, a direct renin inhibitor. It works by blocking the activity of renin, an enzyme produced by the kidneys that plays a key role in the regulation of blood pressure. By inhibiting renin, the medication reduces the production of angiotensin II, a substance that causes blood vessels to narrow, thereby lowering blood pressure.

Tekturna should not be used during pregnancy as it may cause harm to an unborn baby. Patients with diabetes or kidney impairment should avoid combining Tekturna with ACE inhibitors or ARBs due to risk of adverse effects. Common side effects may include diarrhea, dizziness, and headache. Always follow your healthcare provider's instructions and do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.
