Tisseel is used as a hemostatic agent and tissue sealant in surgical procedures where standard bleeding control methods are inadequate or impractical. It is commonly used in cardiovascular surgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, and other procedures requiring tissue adhesion or hemostasis.

Tisseel is a two-component fibrin sealant containing human fibrinogen and thrombin. When the two components are mixed, thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin, which then cross-links to form a stable clot at the application site. This mimics the final stage of the body's natural coagulation cascade, creating both a mechanical barrier and a seal.

Tisseel should only be administered by healthcare professionals trained in its use. It must not be injected into blood vessels or tissues, as this may cause thromboembolic events. The product is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to human blood products. Application should be precise to avoid unintended adhesion.
