Torisel is FDA-approved for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) and relapsed or refractory mantle cell lymphoma, a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Torisel is a mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor that binds to a specific intracellular protein (FKBP-12), forming a complex that blocks mTOR kinase activity. This inhibition disrupts signaling pathways that promote tumor cell growth, proliferation, and angiogenesis.

Torisel is administered as an intravenous infusion, typically once weekly. Common side effects include rash, mouth sores, nausea, weakness, and metabolic changes. Patients should be monitored for hypersensitivity reactions during infusion, as well as for elevated blood glucose and lipid levels. It may cause immunosuppression and should not be used during pregnancy.
