Uceris is indicated for the induction of remission in adults with mild to moderate active ulcerative colitis limited to the distal colon and rectum (distal disease).
Uceris contains budesonide, a synthetic corticosteroid that binds to glucocorticoid receptors in colonic tissue, inhibiting inflammatory pathways and reducing the production of inflammatory mediators to decrease colonic inflammation.
Uceris may increase risk of infections and should not be used in patients with active bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. Prolonged use may cause adrenal suppression and other corticosteroid-related adverse effects. Treatment should not be discontinued abruptly after extended use. Common side effects include application site reactions, flatulence, and headache.
