Unasyn treats a range of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, and urinary tract infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Ampectin combines ampicillin, which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, with sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects ampicillin from degradation, allowing it to be effective against a broader range of bacteria including many gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic organisms.

Unasyn is administered by injection or IV. It should not be used in patients with penicillin allergies. Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, and rash. It is ineffective against viral infections and should only be used when a bacterial infection is confirmed or strongly suspected.
