Velmanase Alfa is indicated for the treatment of non-neurological manifestations in patients with confirmed alpha-mannosidosis, a rare autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disease caused by deficiency of the alpha-mannosidase enzyme.

As a recombinant form of human alpha-mannosidase, Velmanase Alfa catalyzes the hydrolysis of mannose-containing oligosaccharides that accumulate in the lysosomes of patients with alpha-mannosidosis due to reduced endogenous enzyme activity.

Velmanase Alfa is administered via intravenous infusion. Hypersensitivity reactions may occur during treatment. Patients should be monitored appropriately during infusions. This therapy addresses systemic manifestations but does not cross the blood-brain barrier.
