Verzenio is indicated for the treatment of HR+/HER2- advanced or metastatic breast cancer in combination with hormone therapy (such as an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant), or as monotherapy for disease progression following hormone therapy in postmenopausal women.
Verzenio inhibits cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4/6), which are enzymes that promote cell division and cancer growth. By blocking these kinases, the medication helps slow the progression of cancer cells through the cell cycle.
Common side effects include diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, and low blood cell counts. Regular blood monitoring is typically required during treatment. Verzenio may cause fetal harm and should not be used during pregnancy. It should only be prescribed by healthcare providers experienced in cancer therapy.
