Telavancin
Vibativ (telavancin) is a lipoglycopeptide antibiotic used to treat serious gram-positive bacterial infections, including complicated skin and skin structure infections, as well as hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia. It is particularly effective against drug-resistant organisms like MRSA and is typically reserved for situations when other antibiotics are not suitable or have failed.
Vibativ is a last-resort lipoglycopeptide antibiotic for serious gram-positive infections, including MRSA, when other treatments are inappropriate.

Vibativ is indicated for the treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI) and hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia/ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (HABP/VABP) caused by susceptible gram-positive bacteria, including Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It is typically reserved for patients who have limited treatment options.
Telavancin, the active ingredient in Vibativ, is a lipoglycopeptide antibiotic that works by binding to D-alanyl-D-alanine moieties in bacterial cell wall precursors, inhibiting peptidoglycan synthesis. Additionally, it disrupts bacterial cell membrane integrity by interacting with phospholipid components, providing a dual mechanism of action against susceptible organisms.
Vibativ is contraindicated in pregnancy due to fetal harm risk. It may cause nephrotoxicity and requires regular kidney function monitoring. The medication can prolong QT interval and may cause infusion-related reactions. It is not effective against gram-negative bacteria and should only be used when gram-positive infection is confirmed or strongly suspected. Routine serum creatinine monitoring is recommended during treatment.
