Vigadrone
Vigadrone is a prescription anticonvulsant medication used to treat infantile spasms in children and as an adjunctive treatment for refractory complex partial seizures in adults when other therapies have not been effective. It works by increasing levels of GABA, a calming neurotransmitter in the brain, which helps reduce seizure activity. Due to the risk of permanent vision loss, this medication is only available through a restricted distribution program.
Vigadrone is an anticonvulsant used primarily for infantile spasms and refractory seizures, requiring close monitoring due to risk of permanent vision loss.

Treatment of infantile spasms in infants and children 1 month to 2 years old, and as adjunctive therapy for refractory complex partial seizures in adults when other antiepileptic drugs have not provided adequate seizure control.
Vigadrone works by irreversibly inhibiting GABA transaminase, an enzyme that breaks down GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). This increases GABA levels in the brain, enhancing inhibitory signaling and reducing neuronal excitability that leads to seizures.
May cause permanent peripheral vision loss that can be severe; regular ophthalmologic monitoring is required. Can cause drowsiness, fatigue, and weight gain. Should not be discontinued abruptly as this may increase seizure frequency. Available only through a restricted REMS program due to safety concerns.
