Voydeya is indicated as add-on therapy for the treatment of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) in adults who have an inadequate response to C5 inhibitor monotherapy (such as ravulizumab or eculizumab). It helps reduce transfusion dependence and hemolysis in these patients.
Voydeya contains the active ingredient danicopan, which inhibits complement factor B. By blocking this component of the alternative complement pathway, it reduces the destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis) that characterizes PNH, complementing the action of C5 inhibitors.
Voydeya is taken orally and is used as an adjunct to ongoing C5 inhibitor therapy, not as a replacement. Patients should be monitored for infections, as complement inhibitors may increase susceptibility to encapsulated bacteria. Common side effects may include headache, nausea, and elevated liver enzymes. Vaccination against encapsulated bacteria is recommended prior to starting therapy.
