Westcort is indicated for the relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, including atopic dermatitis, eczema, contact dermatitis, and other inflammatory skin conditions characterized by redness, swelling, and itching.
As a medium-potency topical corticosteroid, Westcort works by suppressing the inflammatory response in the skin, reducing the activity of inflammatory cells, and decreasing the production of inflammatory substances that cause redness, swelling, and itching.
Westcort is for external use only and should not be applied to broken, infected, or ulcerated skin unless directed by a physician. Long-term use on large body areas, use in children, or application under occlusive dressings should be avoided unless specifically prescribed. Patients should use only the smallest amount needed for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms, as prolonged use may cause skin thinning or other adverse effects.
