Xadago is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson's disease as an add-on therapy to levodopa/carbidopa in patients experiencing motor fluctuations ('off' episodes). It helps manage symptoms when the effectiveness of levodopa begins to wear off between doses.
Xadago is a selective, reversible monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor. By blocking the MAO-B enzyme, it reduces the breakdown of dopamine in the brain, leading to increased dopamine availability. This helps improve motor function and reduces 'off' time in Parkinson's disease patients.
Xadago should not be used with other MAO inhibitors or certain medications including meperidine, tramadol, methadone, or certain antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs). It may cause or worsen hypotension. Patients should inform their doctor of all medications and medical conditions before starting treatment. Avoid sudden discontinuation.
