Yf-Vax is indicated for active immunization against yellow fever in individuals aged 9 months and older who are traveling to or living in areas where yellow fever is endemic, including parts of Africa and South America. It may also be required for travelers entering countries with yellow fever transmission risk.

Yf-Vax is a live attenuated vaccine containing a weakened strain of the yellow fever virus (17D-204 strain). After administration, the vaccine virus replicates and stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies and cell-mediated immune responses against the yellow fever virus, providing protection without causing the disease.

Yf-Vax is administered as a single subcutaneous injection. The vaccine provides long-lasting immunity, with a single dose generally considered to provide lifelong protection. It should not be given to individuals with severe allergies to vaccine components, immunocompromised patients, or pregnant women unless the risk of yellow fever outweighs potential risks. A valid yellow fever certificate may be required for international travel, and becomes effective 10 days after vaccination.
