Zepatier is indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults with genotype 1 or genotype 4, including those with HIV-1 coinfection, compensated cirrhosis, or severe kidney disease.
Zepatier contains two direct-acting antiviral agents: elbasvir, an NS5A inhibitor, and grazoprevir, an NS3/4A protease inhibitor. These components work together to block different stages of viral replication, preventing the virus from multiplying and spreading.
Zepatier is typically taken once daily for 12-16 weeks. It may cause elevated liver enzymes and should not be used in patients with moderate to severe liver impairment. Drug interactions are common; patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications. Pregnancy is not recommended during treatment and for 6 weeks after stopping.
