Chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27) with at least one weight-related comorbidity such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, or cardiovascular disease.

Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics natural gut hormones to reduce appetite, slow stomach emptying, increase feelings of fullness, and improve blood sugar control when used alongside diet and exercise.

Administered as a weekly subcutaneous injection with doses escalated over time. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and constipation. Has a boxed warning for potential thyroid C-cell tumors (based on animal studies); contraindicated in patients with personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 syndrome. Not indicated for type 2 diabetes treatment (Mounjaro contains the same active ingredient for that indication).
