Zeposia is FDA-approved for treating relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease) and moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults.
As an S1P receptor modulator, Zeposia binds to specific receptors on lymphocytes, trapping them in the lymph nodes and preventing them from circulating to attack myelin in the nervous system or contributing to intestinal inflammation.
Zeposia is taken orally once daily. Patients require cardiac monitoring before starting treatment due to potential heart rate effects. Common side effects include upper respiratory infections, liver enzyme elevations, and orthostatic hypotension. Live vaccines should be avoided during treatment, and pregnancy should be avoided due to potential fetal harm.
