Zepzelca is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with metastatic small cell lung cancer (SCLC) who have disease progression after platinum-based chemotherapy.
Zepzelca contains the active ingredient lurbinectedin, which is a transcriptional inhibitor. It binds to the DNA minor groove and inhibits active transcription, particularly affecting tumor cells with dysregulated transcriptional programs, leading to cell death.
Zepzelca is administered as an intravenous infusion every 21 days. Common side effects include nausea, fatigue, and decreased appetite. It can cause serious side effects including myelosuppression (low blood counts), hepatotoxicity (liver problems), and embryo-fetal toxicity. Patients should be monitored closely during treatment.
