Zituvimet is indicated for improving glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, typically when monotherapy with either component has not provided adequate blood sugar management. It is used alongside diet and exercise.

The medication combines two agents: sitagliptin inhibits the DPP-4 enzyme to increase insulin release and decrease glucagon after meals, while metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity in muscle and fat tissues.

This medication is not indicated for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. The metformin component carries a rare risk of lactic acidosis, particularly in patients with kidney impairment. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms. Dosing must be individualized and renal function should be assessed before starting therapy.
