Zosyn treats a range of serious infections including nosocomial pneumonia, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, and febrile neutropenia. It is typically reserved for infections caused by susceptible bacteria when other antibiotics may not be appropriate.

Piperacillin works by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, ultimately causing bacterial death. Tazobactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects piperacillin from being broken down by bacterial enzymes, extending the antibiotic's effectiveness against resistant organisms.

Zosyn is administered intravenously in healthcare settings. Serious adverse reactions can include allergic reactions (especially in penicillin-sensitive patients), Clostridioides difficile infection, and electrolyte abnormalities. Regular monitoring of kidney and liver function may be required during treatment.
